Isn't there a fuse on the back of the CC unit? I seem to recall having to replace that on my 300CD when the pump went. On the 190DT, the CC unit has an automatic circuit breaker: when the pump siezes, the system locks up, but you can unplug the aux pump and it comes back.

Yeah, my wife stepped outside for a smoke and said, "honey, your car is on fire!" It had to have just happened, because not much was damaged.

And needless to say, I left the aux pump disconnected. Heat works fine without it. You can't even see any burn marks in the engine compartment, it was just melted wire (after I put fire out) right behind pump.

I took the aux pump off both my 300D's. The first one was leaking slightly from the shaft (slight mist) and I found the heat worked as well without it. When I read of the fires, I removed the other perfectly fine one. I used 5/8" silicone heater hose. Seems like a silly design that can only cause problems. But, if you really fancy it, new aux pumps are only $200+.
