Do an internet search for that part number and you'll several other people appear to be able to get it.

Heart stopping prices though for what the kit contains.

indeed...

I've tried the usual places and haven't turned up anything yet.

stretch, this is all your fault for starting the vacuum rebuild thread in the first place! great stuff by the way.

I just spent the last 3 days becoming a bearing expert, only to find that the necessary kit for the rebuild is NLA and expensive.

It depends on whether you need the entire kit with the arm and bearings or if just the check valves and seals.

The repair kit with check valves and seals is about ~$11. Unless yours is making mechanical racket, it's likely that you don't need the major kit. When I took mine apart, a couple of check valves and it was done.

I was going to change out the check valves and seals... Bought some bearings also for the arm.

where can I get the kit? I've searched the part # and turned up nothing

yeah tried ordering that one, but got an email saying its NLA from Mercedes.

the only way to get one is ebay or NOS in a warehouse somewhere.

I contacted a guy on ebay and he said he just sold about 50 of these over the summer. unfortunately he doesn't have any more available.

Hate to say it, but you might want to just consider buying a new pump...

Their expensive, but you have to think...You won't have to buy another for 30 years....

The euro already has a new one, but I want to buy one for the 78...Gives me a chance to upgrade to the piston style as well...

The Piston type Vacuum Pumps needs 2 kits do a complete rebuild and no check valve comes with either kit. When they were available the cots of both kits was more then a new Vaccum Pump and the Pump you rebuilt had no warranty.

It is the Diapragm type Vacuum Pumps and only the Diapragm end that was economical to rebuild.

Also a lot of low vacuum issues are caused by the Check Valve.

This could be a alternate source for the piston type on the piston end; see the attached pic.
Ebay UK often has rebuild kits.

For others. When I did a Google Images search with only the part number 000 586 17 23 with the spaces it shows a lot of pics of the kit.

If and when you get this done, Be Sure to epoxy a magnet beneath the roller bearing so that If it fails catastrophically, the bearings won't fall into the cam chain drive below and wreck the engine.
