question about oil filter housing fittings
was browsing the epc and noticed that the oil filter housing fittings for the hoses have crush washers listed.
mine didn't have the washers originally. does this mean that there will be less potential for over-tightening the oil cooler hoses and cracking the oil filter housing body? also, does this mean less need for dual wrench set-up to get the oil cooler hoses tightened down on the oil filter housing? since the crush washers will buffer the force. I have ordered a set and plan to install sometime soon, just wanting to hear thoughts. even with two wrenches, I felt that the oil filter housing was getting torqued when tightening. thanks,

The only time I have read of someone cracking the Oil Filter Housing is when they were turning the Oil Cooler Hose Nut and the Fitting rotated with it and they had no backup wrench holding the already tightened Oil Filter Housing stationary.
Steel things tightened onto aluminum can often seal OK depending on the condition of the 2 surfaces. However, if you have to go with no crush Washers degrease the threads in the housing and the threads on the fittings and use Loctite or a something similar. I had to thin the thickness of the head of a the wrench I used as a backup wrench on the Oil Filter Housing Fittings. On the Oil Cooler Hose Nuts I used a large Crowsfoot on an extension. I can't remember for sure but I believe it was a 1-1/16 crows foot. It is mentioned in one of the Oil Cooler Hose threads and I believe I posted a pic.

This is what I wrote in a past thread: You will need what I remember as a 24mm Wrench that has a thinned head to squeeze it between the Oil Filter Housing and the Oil Cooler Hose Nut (the hose nut is 27mm, 1-1/16" of an inch).
