Anyway, I hit the first curve, then accelerated into the second, and I must have kept accelerating into the third, when the backend came out from under me, and I plowed into the curb at a 90degree angle...

Were the best pair of tires on the rear? If you purchase only a pair of tires the tire shops around here will only mount the new pair on the rear!

BTW...I know you have a 190DT...I've blown two differentials on mine. Something about lots of torque and a very high gear ratio that doesn't play well. Fortunately, I only one lock up, but one was enough for this lifetime. If your diff begins to make odd noises: clicks and thrubbing, don't be thinking that you can wait until Monday to have a look-see.

Yeah... My DT is currently down with a blown rear... Do I drive too hard?

I don't know which set of tires is newer. I will CERTAINLY inspect the tires though.

I don't think it would have mattered, that corner is covered in oil, and at the speed I was pushing, anything would have spun hitting that patch.

If you try to work out of a spin, the odds are you will flip the car.

I have to say this is not generally true. Most cars have a low enough center of gravity they will spin forever on bare pavement. it would take something special to get them to flip in the terrain for example.

Speaking of tires, on my 190D I then swapped rims and didn't swap over tires, the new rims had crappy Chinese tires that didn't match, even with good tread and excellent contact patch from a newly rebuilt and aligned suspension, they act like they are butter.

I stopped driving that car when I discovered substantial rust on the frame rails (I could bend the metal with my fingers) then I bought my Sportline LE. Tires which are Nitto NT-450s now have 14,000 miles on them but were worn out well before I got it, and they only had 9,000 miles on them. I though they would be good because they were recently replaced and couldn't see them well when I bought the car (did't even really think about it when the PO said the tires were recently replaced). They are garbage tires. Loud, incredibly soft sidewalls (supposed to be performance tires) and obviously don't wear long. Current state they don't handle wet very well at all so I don't drive the car when it is wet out.

I'm waiting until I rebuild the suspension to replace the tires. I have everything down to the subframe mounts (besides springs because of cost and only 200K) waiting to go in but haven't had the time yet between school and an engine swap in my dad's 240D; gaskets, valve adjustment, stainless steel oil cooler lines and sanden kit in my brother's 300SD; and second failed heater core and shifter tube in my mom's Grand Marquis (96). Tires for the Sportline are a 205/55-15 and are extremely hard to come by, only two manufactures make all seasons, Nitto and Kumho.

Could you switch to a 195/60/15? The difference in diameter is well within the margin of error the speedo, and Tire Rack has 49 results for that.

I realize that the 205s would give you a slightly wider tire, but the benefit of a slightly wider tire might be negated by poorer tire quality.

happened to me,,,

November 20th 1982 driving home from college. I left Dayton it was in the 60's. Traffic was heavy being the day before Thanksgiving. Traffic cruising and 60 mph in the rain, early evening. Then al of a sudden, I see tail lights to the left of the car in front of me, then a pair of headlights facing me in the median. Then I see the car in front of me tail lights to the left, tail lights to the right, and around she goes, swing your partner round and round into the median.
TOO LATE n ow it's my turn, rear end to the left, nearly b roke the clutch pedal, but the rear swung to the right, then to the left butn ot as much, then to the right, finally when I slowed down to about 30 mph, she ran straight,,, really scary feeling

I think what goy me more than anything was I had emptied the trunk and back seat of tools and junk the day before and I was having fun with the new sportiness of the vehicle. .. lack of weight in the rear likely exacerbated the skid. ..

I am running 195/55R15 tires all 4 corners on the 8 hole rims just like in the picture below. I appreciate the added grip. Speedo error is acceptable since diameters are comparable between stock and current.

205s rubbed. The 195s don't.

Hmm. I thought the 2.2 5 speed got better fuel economy than the 2.5

My driving is spirited and 100% city. That's why my fuelly reads what it does.

I return 42 mpg on the highway at 75.

Tucson's design is stupid... The highway only passes on the West side of town through less than 1/4 of the city and it kinda goes around the Southwest quadrant. I don't live close enough to ever get on the highway. If you pull up a map of the city, you'll see what I mean. All of my driving is in the city at 40mph or less in 4th gear. I almost never use my overdrive. When I went up to Phoenix to play in the junkyards with Uberwasser, I returned 42mpg. That was the little driving to the highway, the 55mph route halfway there, the 75mph I10 the other half, little bit of driving city around Phoenix, the length of I10 at 75mph back, and the city driving from the highway back to the exact pump that I filled up at before we left. I had about 100lbs of tools in the trunk, so it was almost like 2 adults were inside. I also had the 8 hole rims mounted by that time. I was very pleased with that mileage return.
