windshield washer motor panel removal
 

I have a 1982 300d and I need to replace the windshield washer motor.
I need to remove the black perforated panels to access the motor but they have these tabs holding it down.

Is there anyway to remove the tabs without breaking them?

IIRC, they are two-piece, IE they have a center bit you can push out to unlock the whole piece. I'll look when I am near my car, I did this at a PAP once.

I assume you meant the wiper motor, not the wash pump motor - that is clipped to the side of the fluid tank.

Anyway, the clips are really a 2 piece arrangement. The center piece gets pressed through, which allows the wings of the outer piece under the panel to collapse. Kind of like how a plastic anchor holds to wall board.

Using a blunt tool, press on the center of the fastener, and drive the rectangle piece all the way through. Don't worry, it will fall down in the well, but you will be able to easily fish it out after you get it open.

Now use a small screwdriver or pick to lift the outer piece out. Repeat for all the other fasteners. The grill will now lift out.

When you put everything back together, install the grill, insert the outer pieces, then push the rectangle pieces back in to lock the fasteners.

Yes they are a two piece fastener. Just get a pick and push down the center pin all the way through. Then you can remove the fastener. The drawback though is you can loose those little pins in the cowling, so be prepared to look for them in a bunch of debris that was collected in there. The metal cowling cover has similar fasteners. But be careful not to bend it as it can be glued in by the foam weather stripping.

Correct, wipe motor needs to be replaced, not the fluid motor.

Thanks guys. I was trying to pry it out when I noticed that I would damage these if I continued.

I will knock them through.
