You sure that's original? I was sure that the 1978 300SD was the world's first mass-produced turbodiesel passenger car. Could it be a period aftermarket kit, such as something from AMG?

I'm sure the turbo came from a factory but it didn't come from a MB factory. I'd guess an old Rajay or Banks 240D kit hung on a 615 if that's what the block is. Is there such thing as a W115 coupe? I only know of W114 coupes - all 6 cylinder gassers. The rare part is true... thankfully

Wow, you sure? What's the history on it?

Also, since you've become your dad, does that make it your car?

We might note that Mike D. has a W114/115 coupe with a M115. But it is not a child of Mother Benz.

Haha... No I mean my Dad had one just like the 4-door in the pix. It was a diesel that, as a boy, I was simply entranced by. I mean...no other car had this cool large knob at the dash that one needed to pull to start the vehicle.

I've become my dad because I too, now drive Mercedes diesels almost exclusively.

What type of the injection pump does it have?

Unless they changed the pistons, with no inter-cooler installed, that abortion is not long for this world.

Very interesting. I wonder how it's held up over the years.

617 diesels turbo and non run the same compression ratio and Mercedes didn't run intercoolers until the 98/99 E300 (in the us). So that abortions got a few years left in it.

sarcasm and tone is hard to pick up online, so I can't tell if roll guy is joking. But MB definitely never built a turbo 615 and they didn't make diesel 115 coupes.

I'm not sure how adding something could be considered an "abortion."
