1975 240d into 280 body begins....
just today i picked up a 75' 240d engine and manual transmission along with shifter, clutch assembly, fuel system, and a 300TD wagon full of misc. parts for 300$
all of this is going into my 75' 280, which is sitting in my driveway with a spotlessly clean engine bay. out of the whole car i took car of the only spot of rust with 5 minutes of sanding and a coat of primer. what was not mentioned is that the motor has no intake, air filter, radiator, oil cooler (idk if it had one..), oil pan, most of the wiring was missing and the clutch/pressure plate assembly is covered in rust (the engine and tranny were separated) i open the oil cap to see cams which are covered in rust, although possible salvageable. okay enough with the bad... the fuel tank is in great condition and the trans feel silky smooth going into gear with a satisfying snap. i turned the motor over my hand and it seems to have at least tolerable compression. what i didnt get was the wiring harness from the key switch and pull start to the motor, any advise there? how should i rewire that? main question: did i get a good deal? or did i waste 4 hours of driving and months of saving? thanks, Jack |
