Washer fluid
I ran out of washer fluid this morning. So I went into the trunk for the gallon that I bought last autumn. Open the top, nothing comes out. Nothing. I look at the label in amazement, and whadayaknow:
FREEZE PROTECTION TO +32. You can't make this stuff up. |

Thats what happens to H20/blue coloring and a drop of soap. You can add up to 30% yellow bottle heet to get it to around -20F per gal. As sold at $0.99/ gallon it may be more profitable than Soda, if not very close.

The orange RainX is the best. Good to -40F I believe (I've used it that low) and if you use it the rain will bead on your windshield.

Same here. Sacramento County outlawed traditional windshield fluid so almost all is "+32 F", i.e. water + blue dye. The exception is I have seen motor home "winter fill" suspiciously close on the shelves, and it says something like "-30 F". I just fill my cars w/ 1 gal distilled water + 1 pint of rubbing alcohol from the dollar store. I like the wintergreen one since the green dye insures I didn't forget a pint. Not just the cost, but I worry that if the fluid freezes it could damage parts, and I doubt the County would reimburse you. Alcohol is a fairly natural substance, so not sure what the environmental concern is.

Vodka is way more expensive than rubbing alcohol though! At least the kind I drink. Even the cheapest nastiest vodka would still be $.

I never drank or ate anything that wasn't food... Maybe I had vigilant parents, I'm not sure.
Such is the way with Cali. A custom concoction will work just as good though.
