door stop repair
Can the rear door stops be repaired in any way. Mine are getting very stiff and hard to close the door. Is it a matter of just re lubing or.....

Take the door panel off and look inside.
Two things can happen: 1. The grease is all dried up and it just needs a cleaning and new grease to function like new. 2. The spring loaded ball bearings seized in place and ripped the inner part of the check apart or split the track open. #1 is easy, #2 requires replacement. At the age these cars are at, it's almost always #2 unless the check was replaced a few years ago and needs to be greased. |
Do a search on the horror stories of the door becoming stuck at inconvenient times. It is much easier to repair when working.

I tried greasing the tracks the balls ride in. Didn`t work, at least for that door check.
The problem as many mentioned is between the balls. They hang up in there. I have thought, why couldn`t a hole be drilled between the balls, tap it, and install a zerk and give it a shot of grease. Then put in a plug where the zerk is. Or maybe shooting in some kroil first and let it do it`s magic. then shoot in the grease. Or just replace them. But think maybe only URO`s are the only one`s available? Dealer if available probly cost as much as your car is worth. Or start hitting the yards for W126 parts. Charlie |
New door checks were something like $25 just a few years ago. Think you would be surprised that they are reasonable.
