82 300sd. Injection pump

Hi guys. Do these engines IP have o ring and or seals on the stubs that go to the injector tubes. Can they suck air if bad.? Thanks Greg

No separate seals but the ball-and-cup sealing surfaces can become deformed if overtightened or stressed because the injector lines aren't properly secured. Check carefully because a delivery valve holder leak can look like an injector line leak.

There is a Copper crush washer under the delivery valves. The MW pumps only have a washer, while the M pumps have a washer and O-ring.

Crush washer for 82 300sd

Hi. How can you tell the difference between m and mw IP can they suck air if washers are bad . Still trying to find leak! Starter gone bad l have to replace it now. Thanks Greg

All US OM617 and OM616 have the MW pump, and all Euro OM617 and OM616 have the M pump. All OM601, OM602, OM603 engines have the M pump.

They leak diesel out rather than suck air while running.

If you can't get it running and you think it's fuel related, you probably have an air leak on the suction side or you have a filter problem.

Why not start a troubleshooting thread outlining all of the details about the problem and the things already tested and ruled out? That way we can help diagnose instead of answering specific questions.

You have to crank in short 20 second bursts and give the starter about 5 or 10 minutes to cool down between bursts. That way, you don't melt the windings inside the motor.
