Many thanks guys. The photos were invaluable. I still have the small trim pieces at the edge of the rear bumper which conceal the drain hose. A couple of blasts with the air hose and the drains are flowing freely.
I also found the exit point for the front drains. If you open the front door as wide as you can, you can barely see the drain tube in the door cavity. It is about 1/3 of the way from the door sill. Now for a good rain to test out the cleaning.

Went to see my 300sd last week. I too still have the little plastic trim pieces installed. That explains why I never saw the drains.
