How hard is it to replace the Delco AC compressor?
 

I plan on doing this soon, on my 82 300D. I have access to a chassis lift, so accessing it from the bottom isn't a problem. Has anyone done this, and does anyone have any tips or suggestions? Thanks for any help!

Pretty straightforward. You have to have (17 or 19mm) wrenches and a small adjustable to release the tension on the belt. You DO have to put the lubricant in the compressor prior to bolting it up (talk to you a/c man on directions on this step). Make sure you have the proper size o-rings.
Oh yea - go with a new compressor.

What Jim means is a NEW compressor not rebuilt.

How did the compressor fail? If it trashed out inside, it is imperative that you flush the entire system. The contamination from a compressor blow out will blow out the new compressor.

I just replaced the compressor on my 126 Chassis last week. Easy out from the bottom. New O rings come with rebuilt compressor. Converted to 134A and changed the reciever/dryer. I bought the R4 compressor from my local NAPA guy for $104 bucks. It works perfectly.
