Talking Yes!!! My A/C works!!

I've not been happier for a while now. Recharged the system and now it blows cold!! I've never been happier to hear the compressor engage! Looks like I got a pretty good deal on the car afterall...

Now I need to find an Auxilary fan. The one on the car is beyond destroyed...

I don't know how much but it was filled to the max. It was empty. It was charged with good old R-12.

Yes, if it's R12, I certainly hope there are no leaks. R12 is gold, and it makes you sick when that gold escapes.

Also, it is imperative that you repair or replace your auxilliary fan and see that it works properly. It is actuated when the high side pressure gets too high. The fan then brings down the high side pressure before the excessive pressure causes damage. Fix the fan!

Good luck,

Larry, funny you mention the high side pressure. Just had the 300SD in the shop yesterday and Donnie mentioned that the high side pressure was slightly elevated. Said it could indicate a bad expansion valve or failing compressor.

I have no idea about these things and I don't understand how an elevated high side pressure would mean that the fan needs to come on. I thought that anytime the A/C was on PERIOD the aux fan came on.

hhhm.. I ordered an aux. fan.

I will install it tomorrow hopefully when it arrives, I just can't wait.. it's so nice to finally be able to close the windows and not sweat to death in the car.

Yes, it was checked for leaks. He used some sort of dye or something. i actually watched him do it. Pretty nice! Not many shops let me look at my own car when they fix it.

I hope nothing else is bad (switch, etc.)

Talking

Yes, I understand your glee. There is just something uncivilized about running a Mercedes-Benz without working air conditioning.
