Very happy with the Ford solenoid solution...

One of the things I like best is the fact that I only need to glow 3 seconds with temps above about 45F and no glow if restart within about an hour. Since glow plug life is roughly proportional to total glow time, 3 sec vs 45 sec means dramatically longer life, less battery wear and happy driving.

Obviously opinions vary....

Redpeole, it also helps to have your valves correctly adjusted and the correct 'winter' oil in the crankcase.
Otherwise starting can be problematic in winter.
Also it helps to cycle the relay. Turn it on and off three times before starting so as to get the plugs nice and toasty during very cold temps. That way your starter motor is not cranking endlessly...

or upgrade is as suggested.
This is auxiliary info to the apparent glow plug issue you are having.

This would appear to be a problem, yes? New plug will be here Monday.

Edit: can't get the photo to load. It was a picture of a broken glow plug.

Sounds like you found an open plug. Glad you got to the bottom of it. Good news is, now you have a spare GP relay on hand. Hang on to it.

Exactly! And even better, in the process I found a perfect matching driver's seat to replace mine that has a broken spring.
