1999 E300 silly headlights
Can the feature that keeps the headlights on for a while after exiting the car be turned off? it is so silly.

The dealer can disable it which means you can probably do it if you have SDS. Can you trace the relay that clicks when the lights go on and off? Maybe it's a dedicated relay that doesn't disable features you need if you remove it.
I can see that you have no use for it but how is it silly? Sixto 83 300SD |

Seems kinda useful to have the area in front of the car illuminated as you're walking away from it.

I hate that too.I've learned after I turn off lights and turn off engine,to put key back in run, then turn off and walk away.

My shops and garage are not attached to the house so we built a very large carport. I find the headlight delay quite useful for making it to the backdoor and unlocking it.
Everyones situation is different so they should indeed have made it easily selected or deselected. |

They did in the later models. My 2008 W164 has the ability to change this in the console menu.
Remember the W210 was one of the first computer controlled cars with CAN bus running everything. The W140 was actually the first, but the 210 was the first one with large numbers. They did not provide a user interface in these early models where the user could change the settings. They did make it selectable with the HHT or Xentry. So if it is really a nuisance to you, I would find an Indy or the dealer and pay for an hour of shop time for them to go in and turn it off.

That's it? That's the biggest complaint you have about 201 headlights? How about the crappy lexan lenses that are forever clouding over? Headlights with cataracts is how I used to describe them.

Mine were awful when I bought the car. Then I discovered what $30 at Sam's Club would get me. Good as new.

Something like this, perhaps?: R/C Recycle Truck - Sam's Club I remember how proud I was driving out of the showroom in my new '99...and how disappointed I was every time I brought it around back to the service department. |
