W115 Brake Caliper Rebuild
My 72 220D has been sitting since the early 90s. Since getting the engine running I have now moved to the brake system. All 4 calipers are seized. Probably from just sitting for so long. I would like to replace most of the brake components, especially all the rubber hoses, seals etc. One questions is regarding the calipers themselves. Are they rebuildable? I have seen the rebuild kits that include the seals, pins, boots, clips. Has anyone rebuilt a caliper on these cars and is it worth it compared to replacing the entire caliper? It has the factory ATE calipers and I would like to retain the ATE calipers, whether rebuilt or replaced.

Yes, they are rebuildable, but after such a long storage, the problem will be getting them apart to rebuild and do it safely. I understand the need to do things economically, but this might be a good time to shop for some rebuilt calipers available on an exchange basis.
Hope this helps. |
