722.3 on w 124 300 Diesel Turbo problem

Hi to everybody and thank a lot for all you do.
I am new with W 124 as I bought one for cheap and I really love it.
I search on this forum but I do not find answer to my problem.
So car is w 124 .133 1992 engine is Om 603 960. 400.000 Km
On user manual is wrote that normally car start in 2nd and put first just under load or heavy acceleration.
Mine start ALL the time in 1 st even if you just press gas pedal very very slowly.
I tried to loose a little bit Bowden cable what I had is that I had 2 to 3 and 3 to 4 at low rpm but 1 to 2 all the time at about 1500 or 2000 rpm.
I think vacuum control is just to have shift more firm or less if I understood .
May be I have bad kick down switch? Do I have one in this car?
If I put in 3 car shift 1to2 and 2 to 3 Ok no 4 OK
if I put to 2 and this is problem car start in 2nd and stay in 2 nd.
Really do not understand
valve body problem?
Really thanks a lot excuse me for my English
Alberto

The diesel starts in 1st, gasoline (300E) starts in 2nd. Sounds like your car is fine.

This part doesn't sound right for a 722.317 - it should still start in 1st and shift only to 2nd. Maybe your '92 has a winter mode. But if that's the only problem after 400K km (250K miles), the transmission is in better shape than most.

Thanks a lot I will soon have to rebuilt engine as I have bad compression and once I will re seal transmission and do complete flush converter and gearbox.
I have no winter mode the only thingh strange is starting in 2nd when in 2 but to be honest I do not use this option.
Thanks a lot
Alberto

Not true of a 603 car. Your 602 car, yes. But 603s have the .3.

OP may not be in the US.

The 124.133 was only sold in the US as a 1987 model.

Might be easier where you live. Most in the U.S. find that rebuilding an engine is nowhere near as easy as rebuilding a gas engine, and few here have attempted it. Not to dissuade you though, indeed I began rebuilding my 1985's engine - new cylinder liners, haven't taken to machine shop. Shop rebuilt engines cost ~$8500. That is for my 5 cyl OM617.952, but I think the 6 cyl are similar (or more).

Also, few here have rebuilt a transmission. There is a recent post, very detailed w/ many photos. Can't recall if a .3xx or .4xx, though I think both are very similar. Read it first to judge. It looks much more involved than the 2 Chrysler transmissions I rebuilt, but photos always look more intimidating. The rebuild kits cost much more (~$250 vs $60). Don't buy just an "overhaul kit" since that is just gaskets and seals. You also need the "friction plates" (clutch & steel), in at least a "banner kit".

Safe assessment. He's talking about a Euro only car, using the metric system, and has said English isn't his first language.

To the OP, you have a kickdown switch, and an easy way to see if its giving you issues is to just unplug it.
