oil change or not (mobil 1)

so my 190d2.5td has been sitting unused for the past year due to a fuel algae problem that i finally rectified this weekend between honey do's. car runs fine now but may still need the injectors rebuilt.

the oil that is in there is 8 quarts of Mobil 1 turbodiesel truck and a Mann oil filter. i have probably driven the car 100 miles since the oil change last year.

should i change the oil? seems wasteful to do so.

I bought my bike in 2015 with oil that had been in it since 2008. It took me over 1000 miles to get around to changing it. So far, so good.

Oil doesn't go bad while it sits. I wouldn't worry about changing it sooner. If you're worried get a blackstone test.

Take it for a long highway drive at speed to get the oil temp up for a while to get out any condensation that may have accumulated while it was stored.The oil should be fine!

It's OK.

For your first drive, start it and let it run for a minute or two. Take off and drive gently until it's up to temperature, then drive it hard or take it on the highway. A 30 minute drive should get the oil nice and dry and mix up any additives that settled out. When you come back, let it idle for 5 minutes to cool the turbo, then shut it off and check all of your fluid levels. You'll be fine.

The oil does not change from sitting, M1 does not settle or separate, will be fine. The only possibility is that it has drained down from the top of the engine quite a bit, but once you have oil pressure then drive normally.

I have boat, car, and equipment engines that sit all winter, some longer. The standard is to change oil hot before storing so that you remove all of the contaminants from the system before storage, you pretty much did that so you were stored "by the book" and ready to go.

Would be quite a waste to change it, since unnecessary. If I had to drain it to fix an oil pan gasket or such, I would even filter and re-install it.

Waste of money to change it. Run it. It doesn't go bad in the bottle on the shelf, its not going bad in your sump.

Some additives do settle out. Next time you open a bottle of oil that has been sitting for a while, look on the bottom. It looks sort of like fine sand. Pennzoil does it primarily, and everyone agrees it is just add pack fallout. You give the bottle a good shaking up, and it "melts" back into the oil after its first run.

M1 does not, at least not the Gp IV synthetics.

Regardless, my advice applies to any similar situation. If there is no fallout, no problem. If there is, no problem. It's a moot point.

If there's "fallout" in the oil pan, it's going to take more than idling to combine the oil.

Oil pressure --> drive.
