w123 (240D) power steering bolts
Hello All,
New to the forums, thanks for having me =) I'm the new owner of a 1981 240D and it's time to change the belts. I have a diagram explaining the process, but there's a nut i just cannot seem to get to on the power steering pump -the bottom left nut. The ratchet head is too big (hits the pump, preventing me from fitting it), the extenders are too long (they all seem to hit the belt wheel). I even tried loosening it from the back (firewall side), but same deal -far too much in the way. Am I missing something obvious here? Managed to loosen the other two just fine. Help! |

I recently did the same job and if memory serves I used a 3/8 drive u joint to access that bolt from the front and a breaker bar to secure the nut on the back. But I'm not sure.
I definitely did it pretty easily with tools from a pretty basic Craftsman set, though |

Thanks, that did the trick -I'm a complete novice. Didn't even realize that was an option.
