126 burglar alarm.
I've had to disable the alarm on my 300 SD due to a fault in the driver's door handle. Is it possible to change the tumblers in the handle?

There are pictures where the lock is rekeyed. Ask Professor Google. I am having difficulty removing the key and tumbler so am obviously missing something. Will post pic of handle and lock when that project surfaces.

Thank you kindly. I have the original handles on the car but the RS doesn't want to unlock with the key. The vac system works great on it though.

If its anything like the w124 you can just change the microswitch in the door handle.

From what I've read in the service bulletins, the problem is moisture getting into a microswitch. Their solution was replacement of the door handle to a version that had more weather protection.
However, dude99 could you enlighten us a little? Is this microswitch available separately? I'm wondering if they use a common part number. I've never seen a part break down that shows it, at least not for the W126. |

I don't have my copy of the w126 or w124 service manual handy at the moment, I'll try to look it up. Basically you removed the outer door handle and you could remove the micro switch from there and replace it. Give me a few minutes and I'll see what I can dig up.

Ok here we go. First PDF is how to remove the w126 door handle (had to split it into two parts. If you look at the "Alarm w126 Page 11" document (which is part of the w126 service manual on the alarm system) you can see that it uses a separate microswitch that looks a lot like the w124 assembly. If you have a wrecker around you grab a microswitch from the passenger side door (since they see a lot less wear) and modify it to work on the drivers side as is mentioned in the link I provided in my previous post. Then you should be good to go.
A side note, I previously tried to get the alarm working in my w124 300TE wagon that had the same issue. Mine turned out not to be the micro switch but seemed to be the wring between the door and the car. I decided not to fix mine as I could't be bothered to string new wires though the car. I did however try changing the microswitch first.

Thanks! Great info! Mine only seems to cause problems in rainy weather. Mostly when it is pouring down buckets and you have to run out to unplug the controller.

Glad to help, if you need more info let me know. As for your rainy issue. Maybe take out the switch, let it dry, then slather it in some dielectric grease? That might help keep the water out of it. Just a thought.
Or perhaps theres some sort of internal seal thats gone bad..
