Tire size question ref: 205/70R14s
The back right tire (all the tires on the car are 190/70R14s) on the 1984 300DT has a nail in it and the tire looks battle worn. I still need to replace some major front end components (LCA bushings, lower ball joints, tie rod ends, etc.) so the front end can be aligned properly.
Since I'm slightly financially embarrassed at the moment, I have to collect the front end parts as I can afford them. That said, I'm thinking of changing out all four tires with a set of Michelin 205/70R14s I have already mounted on mercedes wheels OR just change out the rear tires with the 205/70R14s. Any thoughts? |

I have run 205/70 14's on my 1980 300SD for the past 8 yrs and they are fine. Rule of thumb is always be sure width of wheel is 80% or greater of tread width.

Having the same brand and size on all four wheels seems like a good idea if they have safe tread depths.

Also, at the very least you should pair the same size tire on each axle. Don't know about the sedan, but I've run as large as 205/75 tires on my wagon with no problems whatsoever. At one point I was forced to run smaller tires on the front and the 205s on the back and also no problems, although it might look odd visually. -Rog |
