What's the trick to keeping this trim part in?
The trim piece around my shifter console keeps popping up for some reason. This is not a photo of my car, but just a stock photo with the arrow pointing to the trim piece......

It has 4 clips that protrude from it that grab onto something. Why would mine be popping out? I'm wondering if one of the plastic clip prongs broke off after I removed it. My car is a 1991 300d. |

Not sure if it is different on the W124 but on the W201, that piece is directional and has tabs that slide into slots. I had the same problem because the tabs were bent and were not sliding into their slots so I just bent them back the other way and was able to get it to go back in correctly.

That's right. It's a "Tab A into Slot B" kind of thing. Use a flashlight, look down around the shift quadrant, you'll see the 4 slots. Position the trim piece and carefully push it into place making sure each tabs goes into it's slot and doesn't bend around or over it.
