Toolbox Envy...

I've been drooling over the beautiful cantilever tool boxes from Gedore and Hazet over at this thread on the Garage Journal Forums:

Cantilever Toolbox Thread - The Garage Journal Board

While trying to rationalize the purchase I stumbled across this 19" Stack-On box at Menard's for $17.99. It's made in the USA and seems pretty stout.

http://www.menards.com/main/tools-hardware/tool-storage/tool-chests-boxes/stack-on-reg-19-steel-tool-box/p-1444444049213.htm

After a coat of paint and some leather liners I think it will fit the bill nicely for a lot less cash.

It sure is nice to separate all the tools needed for the Mercedes into a single, small box.

Anybody else using a portable toolbox?

I've got this one, but with a deeper main box. I use it for nuts and bolts.

If I had a nickle for every one of those I've thrown away....

The very FIRST thing to do with either the pictured box or the one listed for Menard's is to drill out those verplunkt rivets and replace them with screws and nuts.

It ain't no fun when either the handle or the latch pops loose and dumps 10 pounds of assorted tools onto your foot or in the mud.

I have 3 roll-around tool boxes and not all of my stuff fits as it is. I do take a tool satchel to the track but much of my track stuff (I don't take my Snap-Ons) lives under the front seat of the truck full time. The satchel gets some good screwdrivers (I hate cheap screwdrivers) and an assortment of good pliers as well as the laser heat gun and other assorted stuff. My goal, however, is to do as little work at the track as possible.

Having some sort of tool container to keep all Mercedes tools together could be helpful, for sure. I've bent up some "specials" like valve adjusting wrenches but I have a drawer for mongrelized tools so mine live there.
