Installing STAR Service Manuals on Hard Drive
I have the W210 and W211 service manuals on DVD which I run on a Windows XP machine. They are designed to be run from the DVD drive. However, I would like to copy the files on to the hard drive and run from there without further use of the discs.
So I created directories and copied the files. But when I run viewer.exe, it wants to find it on the DVD. So, with the disc back in the drive, it works fine and accesses the file from the hard drive...it doesn't appear to have any further use for the DVD. So this is certainly better in that it's faster. But is there any way I can run the whole thing entirely from the hard drive? |
The easiest way would be to make .iso images of the DVD's. Then using virtual CD\DVD drive software mount the .iso files. This will make them appear as DVD's in a DVD drive to the operating system and all the programs on your computer. My favourite virtual drive program is magic disk Freeware MagicISO Virtual CD/DVD-ROM(MagicDisc) Overview It's free and easy to use, it also doesn't have any crap with it. Good clean software.

Thanks.
I made an ISO image and then tried to mount it with MagicISO....but I got a message saying it needed to access the original disc. So it makes me wonder whether MB has done something that prevents an ISO image from being usable. |
