1987 190D 2.5L Turbo pre-purchase questions

I'm looking at a 2.5L turbo'd 190 and am wondering if there are particular weaknesses in this model I should be alert for?

• Wiring harness?
• Leaks
• improper lubricants used affecting turbo?

that sort of thing.

Any guidance appreciated.

thanks,
Rosso

A rare find, only 1500 came over from Germany

29 years later, this car is well past the question you're asking.

The wiring harness issues didn't come along till the mid-ninteis otherwise, unless you're familiar with the beast, it's a get what you get basket of potential fun and frustration.

The 190s had huge issues with cold climate cars from salt causing the ripping off of the upper front spring cups from the unibody, otherwise, it's a mini 124 car in many respects, all the same issues of those cars and MBs cars have, HVAC box sucks on these, the vacuum actuators dry out and crack and fail-

I had one for 7 years that came from a less than attentive owner, nothing un doable, nothing to expense, just need the books and some skill, sleeves up and dig in!

It's a rip to drive after you get it tweaked.

One thing to mention is that the early 602 heads can and do fail similar to the 603's. Just check the coolant and see how it looks,no oil in the coolant is always a good sign. Hopefully others can chime in
