Lemforder Torsion Bar Bolts are Steel

My stripped Lemforder bolts are steel (thanks for the magnet test idea). My bolt threads also showed some galling across the nut travel well before the final torquing. Are you sure this is normal? I'm thinking this is additional evidence of "soft" steel.

Was a new nut provided? It may have been the nut that was the problem, not the stud/bolt.

It could be soft steel, but equally could be the wrong pitch - does the nut go on easy before it hits the Nyloc insert, should be able to screw on by hand up to this point.

I used the torsion (sway) bar nuts that were provided by Lemforder. The hole in the torsion bar nut is slightly oblong (pinched) type. The nuts threaded on OK but were a little stiff and seemed to gall the thread of the bolt a little as the nut rides up the bolt and compresses the rubber bushing- do you think this is normal? This "galling" occurred on both passenger and driver side bolts. I don't want to be an alarmist on the galling because maybe that's normal, I'm not sure.

Lemforder gives you two nuts for the torsion bar bolts (the ones that stripped), a new pinch bolt and nut and two control arm bushing nuts (you reuse the Mercedes bolts).

The control arm bushing nuts is another part where Lemforder went cheap. See the attached pic. The nut on the left is the Lemforder. The one on the right is the original MB nut. Which one would you use? I went to the dealer to get replacement nuts which were like the originals in the pic.

OK the pic rotated on me. The bottom nut is the Lemforder and the top nut is the original MB for the main control arm bushing bolts.

Its hard to tell from the photo but looks too weedy, this is from my S124 where I re-used original MB nuts.

Can you post larger pictures as too small to evaluate, at a guess I would say they are the wrong nuts unless a separate washer is used.

Not sure what the correct name is for this type of nut but it incorporates its own washer making the contact area wider, this is important as you don't want to distort the metal foot when tightening.

It is called a "flange nut" or if bolt= "flange bolt"

Here's the assortment of nuts. How did you paste the picture directly into the post?

I used their motor mounts and differential mounts. Three years daily driving on them and they look good so far. Had no problems with fit on install.
