that isnt entirely true...

they sent me a caliper (overnight rush delivery, mind you) with a piston AND the boot missing.

Not a joke. Other than the situation, which is clearly worth its weight in gold for humor.

not meant to be off topic but if these particular Nugeon re-builts, purchased from pelican, are not to be trusted. which ones WOULD a fellow trust to buy? OPParts? None of the above?

Was the caliper with the wallowed out threads for the rear driver side? Just wondering if by chance the "rebuilder" put it back into inventory, and you ended up with it.

yes it was. Perhaps even Pelican is guilty of this one.

I am getting another one directly from Nugeon. Lets see how this goes.

without offending our sponsor, I would say you would be best off to by NEW calipers only from this site.

...that is, if you value your time.

there may be better options elsewhere.

Well, 30 years ago, new calipers were affordable. Today, not so much!
So far, the major problems I've had with rebuilt calipers from any source has been getting mis-boxed pairs. Like two left sides or two right sides.
I even had one brain-dead parts-counter zombie insist that was how the vehicle came - until I showed him the photos on his computer screen!

thats way different than my experience, even outside of this adventure. But I am glad to hear it isn't pervasive everywhere.

I realize I am being really harsh on Nugeon. I actually think they do a nice job on reman original calipers. They use really sturdy boots and the pistons always look great.

Its the wierd aftermarket crap they throw in that are clearly not original and the lack of oversight that makes purchasing from them a hassle.

Even after all this, I might buy them again. I lied, sorry. However, I will probably try to save for new calipers if a local store does not have an optional rebuilder.

I generally dislike shopping online/mail-order because so many once-reliable parts suppliers are now selling the cheapest crap they can get away with. At least if a local store says they have the part, I can go look before I buy. Sometimes, despite the parts-guys insisting on the phone that they stocked the right part, I've had to visit three or four parts stores to find what I needed. Or the aftermarket parts were inferior or defective, and I wound up buying from a dealer. Often, I've been able to resolve the problem in a day. The waiting-time for shipping from online/mail-order suppliers would add many days or weeks to this process.

Just got a bad front caliper from Rock Auto. Re-man'ed by Raybestos. Threads stripped out and the bottom receiving surface was deteriorated to the extent when the line reached the end of the cut threads it wouldn't seal. Frick-snazzle-plixtor!

Of course I found this out AFTER I had already installed the right side caliper (no problems with it), it was after 6:00 PM AND it was on a Friday. To top it off, it seems as though the replacement caliper buggered the threads on the brake hose so it needs to be replaced. Threaded the hose by hand so I know it was not cross-threaded.

It looked good in the package, although to be honest I didn't do a thorough inspection since the first one was fine. My fault on this.

So now my car sits on jack stands for at least 3 days until I can get a replacement caliper and line. Glad it's not a customer's car.

Went with Raybestos because they used to be a quality brand. Obviously not any more.

Never buying NuGeon remanufactured brake calipers ever again. BAD.-caliper1.jpg
