1991 300D 2.5T - Won't Start Glow Plug Light Out,Starter Won't Engage

Just re-torqued the head bolts after a head replacement,it was sitting for a week or so and come outside to start it up and nothing. Glow plug light is out,and the starter won't engage,I fiddle with the shift linkage a little to see if it's the SNS,and no dice.

It started fine before and has never done this before, all the other lights on the dash come on.

Really odd,I was told to check the OVP relay (80a fuse),but figured I'd get some more opinions. Oh and the car got brand new Bosch glow plugs when I swapped heads.

Thanks in advance,
matt

I dont know why they pointed you to the OVP, its completely unrelated to the starter or glow circuits. Might as well slughter a chicken and burn the entrails. I assume the battery is fully charged.

A few thoughts

- glow plug and starter probaby unrelated. But if they are, the starter switch is the place both come together.

- a single bad plug will keep the dash light off. Were they checked after installation? Can you test to see if they are getting power? Was all the wiring installed?

- did you lock the crank when the head was pulled? Did you remove the crank lock?

- try bench testing the starter.

- was all the battery wiring reinstalled?

- was the cam timing done correctly? Are all tools accounted for?

Glow plug light and starter, I don't think have any common point other than the cable (power) to the engine, I too would suspect battery wiring.

Without the glow circuit, the engine should still crank provided the car is in park or neutral.

Thanks everyone for the tips, you guys as always were right! (lol)
I went out to the car this morning and tried to start it and the battery was totally dead. That's weird because it's got a new Duracell battery in it..I threw it on the charger and instantly the glow plug light started coming on. -shrug-
I turned the key and it started right up!Well I'm not going to argue with that but either this car has a pretty serious battery drain or a bad battery. Anyways, it runs pretty good with the new head/hg,I was able to take it around the block a few times. A little bit of smoke was coming out of the coolant reservoir, and 4 of the injectors were leaking (just put new crush washers in from the MB kit, sigh) still crossing my fingers that the hg isn't leaking we'll see...
