Flooding tried to claim my 300cd in the Houston area

When it rains it pours ,a 20 inch rainfall hit last night in the local area, last look out front into our culdessac showed nothing out of the ordinary ,at 4am I glance across the street and see nothing but a sheet of water where my car is parked .I first call the neighbors then head out to rescue the old girl, water is in the floors and rising fast. The sheets of rain are coming down followed by lightning strikes ,It runs enough to pull it into the driveway ,then sputters and dies.I head out to help neighbors but abandon the moment when a strike hits close enough to count your blessings.Went for a start this morn . after a cup of joe, it ran but was sluggish. gave it some pedal and wooosh a black pluum of black smoke out the tail pipe rushes out,the flood water was up in the pipe over night along with the muffler and did enough of a soak to loosen 30 yrs of sooot out and once I gave it enough gas it was purging away.A real life chitty chitty bang bang.Who can claim a benefit to water coming into their car but with the old diesel benzes.

That was a close one for sure.

Now have to remove the carpets and seats and get all dried before it starts to mold.
Take her for a drive and get things good and hot will dry out the Muffler and pipe.

Wow, 20 inches, out here in the desert it would be a wash for sure.

I bet you will have plenty of problems when the muffler bearing rust up. Click and Klack they are the "worst" to replace, especially on a 30 year old muffler

Muffler bearing is bad enough but try a carraige clearance non-reversable tri- mount ,those are a bear to get too ,espicially being non reversable.

Take out the carpet? No way, go buy a dehumidifier and let it run in the interior for a week. At least that's how I do it.

We're down here in town and didn't get the full 20 inches. We did pull our other car up off the street which was a smart move. Glad to hear you rescued the CD just in time. Can you use wet/dry shop vac to suck up as much water as you can? Our local detailer used one when they shampooed the carpets in our Toyota.

Lucky on the carpet end of the recovery for the car ,it was already out and in a dry place. Just the bits got wet around the seats, was making a sound of sorts around the trannie ,lucky to find a small stick that found its way around the torq converter, pulled it out and no more noise ,love easy fixes like this one.

Not the burgandy one Panzzer ,that one got wiped out when I tried to avoid a texter pulling across lanes at 70 mph 3 yrs ago, it proved its crash -a-bility rating though ,the steering wheel is the only part that lives on from that car ,dont no if its a lucky keep sake or not after this close call.

The 20 inches was closer to 14 but still a deluge ,a storage tot I leave out on the backyard was 2 inches from the top , a 5 gallon bucket completely full gives you an indication of what took place .It started at 11 pm til around 6 am . The U.S. record for rainfall in 24 hrs was recorded in this local ,THE Alvin area recorded 43 inches in one day.
