W123 console removal, column trim questions
I just pulled my dash/console for major refurbishment and a new dash. Of course, when i was almost done with re assembly i discovered that the console has a tear in the front where one of the carpet clips must have caught on something. I dont know that i can repair it, and now comparing the original finish to my freshly dyed dash and nearly new seats/door cards, i am thinking about finding a junkyard dash to dye.
Has anyone successfully pulled a console with the drivers seat in place? It seems like i could pull the armrest maybe and lift it straight up? Or is it too tight? Also, the piece of trim above my windshield, as well as my A & C pillar trim, have all been covered in vinyl rather poorly. Should those be vinyl wrapped or just be plastic that matches the interior color? While I have plenty of leftover dye I want to try to source and color match as much of the interior as possible Thanks! |
5 bolts (includes the seat belt) and the driver's seat can be removed. Makes the job of removing the console so much easier.

Not trying to be argumentative, but the OP did not mention where he is at so I just want to footnote that answer.
On rust belt cars, four of those five bolts can be an exercise in frustration... particularly when the bolts are stuck/rusted in place captive nuts on the seat bolts come free and spin. Just sayin :D |
I have pulled the seat twice now, but it requires help - the bolts are easy, the problem is i have a bad back and cant lift the seat on my own without risking causing way more damage than is reasonable, and I hate pestering my friends for help constantly. I can get the seat out on a junkyard car alone since i dont have to worry about scratching the door opening etc.

I have the same problem with my back. I have been able to unbolt the seat and move it back without lifting it to gain better access to the console. Rusted bolts may be another consideration.

That would probably work. Good idea!
Bolts are definitely not rusty, unless they became so in the week since i had the seat out the last time :( Now to find a good console, whenever another w123 hits the junkyard near me |
