Performance Clutch Info
Another cut-n-paste from BangShift. The BMW 320i disc will work fine but I still don't have a solution for the pressure plate. I have an Email off to ClutchMasters so we'll see what they can invent.
Trans is out. The BMW disc looks like it'll fit w/no issues but I'm not sure what to do with the pressure plate. The BMW plate for sure will NOT work, darn it. The flywheel. You can see it's been slipping but it's not TOO bad. I think I can clean it up with an abrasive pad on the die grinder and call it good. Pressure plates - the new one is on the left. I'm pointing out the difference in mounting flange height necessitated by the mounting step in the flywheel (see above). It's also a tad too big around but that potentially could be machined but the lack of accommodation for the step is a deal-breaker. Clutch discs. The only significant difference is that the friction surface is thinner on the new one but not by too much. The center also protrudes more on the stock one but I don't think that matters. The spiffy trans jack in use. REALLY worth having (he says, breaking his arm patting himself on the back). I'll Email ClutchMasters and see what they suggest. Dan |

Re: Pressure plate/Flywheel step
The simplest solution is to turn the step down to the level of the friction surface, bore the ID of the flywheel rim to clear the clutch cover as necessary, and drill/tap new PP bolt holes. |

Of course that can be done. I worry a bit about taking more mass out of the flywheel as this is already the 240D "light" flywheel. I'll see what else I can come up with but your idea may, indeed, be the solution.
