Can i make money or break even buying a euro parts car??

300d euro import. Automatic. euro bumpers. some rust, 250k on engine, runs good. trans slips. euro headlights, fair interior.

Can i recoup $1000 if i parted it out? can i do it if i keep the bumpers?

Well, it can be fun and a learning experience, but it is a difficult way to make money. If everybody lived close together and shipping was not such a headacke, I would say do it. But keep it a rolling chassis and sell what you can pull and get decent money for it, and when the hot items are gone call the junkyard and you are done with it.

what year....?

What year is it? I live north of Houston, and I would be interested in some odds and ends. Maybe headlights ...

Read the post again, the car is a Euro... Euro bumpers are $250 and up assuming good condition, headlights $100 apiece, if the wheels are the pressed aluminum ones (look like steelies but 1/2 the weight) they are worth at least $100 apiece for the 5.5" ones... if they are the 6" ones, more. 5.5" ones have a broken white stripe running on the wheel on the raised portion closer to the center, 6" ones have a solid stripe.

$1k is still a bit rich for a parts car... is it in good shape other than for the slipping tranny?

I guess i will come clean...

$400 for this car, which is a great deal, but 1800 miles from me. it will cost me $700 minimum to get it shipped. All i really wanted was the bumpers and possibly the door lock set. Mistaken about the euro headlights, but i need a passenger mirror as well. if some can buy it and ship me the bumpers, i would appreciate it

What isn't motioned in the ad is the transmission...

If this is a manual, the flywheel and driveshaft alone are worth the drive...
If it's a five speed, I would fly there form anyplace in the us and ship it back...

Find this out... I removed the listing link for you, until you find this out, in case you decide you want it...
Still I agree those lights are not euros, but the picture is bad... They could be.

I think it is an automatic and the transmission slips. It may be worth having a look and perhaps installing another transmission. Some rust is the issue. Also when these cars where imported from Europe the speedometer was usually changed. It seems obvious the headlights probably where. So overall millage is probably unknown. Could still be a decent car though.

If it's a Euro car, the parts can be fun to have and easier to sell. If it's a MANUAL Euro car (I do see it's a slushbox), you could easily get your money back. The guy I got my manual conversion parts from does it all the time. I can assure you, he got his money back on my purchase alone since it included the correct 38# flywheel. I'm sure he bought it right. The cloth seats were nice and the engine was good. The body had a lot of rust. He had some secrets to finding Euro cars. He didn't share those with me. I think it's a profitable side gig for him.

I have never lost any money parting out a car but I haven't really made any either. The two that I sent off to the crusher as a shell were a former daily driver of mine which I kept the driveline for my wagon and a beat to death 240D with a good manual transmission that currently lives in my 240D.

We have the luxury of parting cars that would be repaired were they another make & model. I have a 78 Z car and people would fight to fix one at that good of a starting point.

I don't see what all the fuss is about with the five cyl diesel flywheels...
A slight resonance below 2k is a small price to pay for a cheap-fast revving flywheel. I've a 2.3 fw on my om605a and about to have a 280e on an om617, happy about the extra half inch of clutch surface area, although I know I won't need it until a proper 617a swap with super pump is in front of it
But yeah it is crazy how much euro bumpers go for...
I'd love a front one

euro wagon

Why do these cars always have to be so far away from me??Here is a euro wagon in Seattle. Sadly no A/C, so that would be tough in texas.
