1984 300cd w123 retaining boost pressure

I have a boost controller and gauge connected. I noticed that I was storing about 5psi, thought maybe it was the gauge or the line, or just normal for it to retain some pressure while driving around. Didn't drive the car yesterday, was holding 5psi when I got in this morning. What's up with that?

Most likely a bad gauge. No boost is stored. Boost is proportional to engine speed and load. At no load it should read zero or close to it. In fact if you were in the Rockies it should actually read negative at no load.

If I disconnect the line from the gauge, the pressure is released. Why would a gauge fault hold pressure in the system?

The only thing I can think of is you've got a kink or pinch in the line such that the pressure makes it by the obstruction and then 5psi is held in the line section between the gauge and the kink.

If it's not that....then it's magic.

Where/how are you tapping into the intake for your gauge?

Your boost controller needs to be vented double check how it's connected.

disconnecting the line at the gauge could provide just the jostle needed to release a stuck needle. any existing intake pressure will dissipate back out the air filter when the engine is turned off.
