What is the current quality of MB floor mats?
When I bought my 92 300D back in 2003, I treated myself to a new set of Mercedes floor mats, purchased from the dealer. The quality was TERRIBLE....falling apart within a year. And, unlike any other factory part, MB would not replace them under warranty.
Has the quality gotten any better? Or are they still terrible? I'm sure Coco Mats is the way to go....but they are kinda pricey.

I've got too many sets where the tops look fine, but the bottoms fall apart so they bunch up and slide all over. Consequently they are of little value beyond looking good for when you first lay them out.
I would very much like to obtain or create a firm backing to which I could affix them.

What I've seen is that the bottoms are soft foam that tends to come apart. As for sliding around, some MB have snaps built into the factory carpet. If these are not to be found, there are hair pins with a clip that can be used to keep the mats in place..
Dealer accessories are not really factory parts so looking towards the aftermarket nets the same results. How about getting a trim shop to sew on a new backing and some loops so they don't move around? |

Get the Coco Mats and you won't be disappointed. There was just a thread about them this morning.

The carpet nap of my 99 E300's was very nice looking. I left them in their plastic pouches that they came in, never using them. Their backsides are grey foam, that goes to cr@p by flaking. I know this because when I bought my 06 E320 CDI three years ago, the MB dealer installed new MB carpets (4) in the car before I sealed the deal. Their grey foam backs are the grey, disintegrating cheap foam too.

X2 on most of the comments. Look good but in a short time the foam backing disintegrates and they slide all over. If you use the metal hooks, they will tear into the carpet. Get cocomats.
I used this source for cocomats ; COCO mats

Stick with the Genuine MB Rubber mats. The carpet are worthless other than for the first 6 months.

I bought MB mats for my car eight years ago. They were thinner than I expected but looked good in the car. They still look almost as good as when I put them in. The only thing I have done to them is to vacuum them periodically as needed. The rubber bottom foam is still in good condition. I think they have served me well.

If you ever run Weathertech you won't want any other floor mat in my opinion.
