Sunroof shunroof....

1. Any suggestions for a replacement teleflex cable?
2. Any info on how to get the roof to snap 'UP" once its 99 percent closed?

ANY info appreciated. Mine is giving me crap even though I've removed the roof and cleaned & lubed everything....twice. I really love this car, otherwise I would have torched it this afternoon.

I'm going to go with a new cable, to go with my new motor, to go with my new grease, to ......ahhh, never mind.

This thing is starting to get the best of me and it sucks!!!

Did I mention that the little clips that hold the cable tube SUCK!

Dieter, Helmut, Frans & Hans, with all due respect....this design leaves a lot to be desired.

It's a 1985 300CD. And its SWEEEEEEEEET except for this damn sunroof!

PS. Anybody know the part number for the window relay behind the cluster? Apparently that has crapped out too. I guess that my car just longs to be closed up tight with the air on. Too bad I'm a roof open and windows down kind of guy.

Look to the sides on the rear of the sunroof lid. There should be some plastic guides behind the track that a metal piece attached to the lid slides up to make the lid close. The metal piece on the rear sides of the lid has adjustments. Your headliner will come off as you probably know. When the lid is open it sort of slides up and out the opening.
Once you are to the 99% closed position with the head liner for the lid off, try and gently push up on the lid in the rear to make it close completely. You may have to use the switch in conjunction with pushing up. Then proceed to make adjustments to make sure the adjustable metal piece on the lid corner is catching on the plastic part next to the rail to make it lift and close completely. Then open and close the roof and make adjustments to the side sliders and the rear lift parts until it operates correctly. Once it is working right then slide the liner through the top of the roof and back into place.
It is possible one of your tabs on the rear corner of the lid the that catches in the plastic part by the rail is bent. You can remove it and straighten it if needed. Replace if necessary. I will be working on my roof soon so maybe I can get some pics. The roof is basic once you figure it out. I hope this helps. BTW, I don't think you need a new cable.

I have an 84 & 85 SD. Both recently required lubing the tracks. The 85 now works perfectly. The 84 needs a very small amount of help to open or close. What got me to this point was removing the cable and cleaning/lubing/adjusting until the roof without the cable worked smoothly by hand. I took a rifle cleaning rod and chucked it in a cordless drill and used it to clean and lube the rearward areas of the track. Also adjust the slides in enough to hold the roof but loose enough to slide.

Install the tops of the rails once you have the roof sliding freely by hand. Install the cable as a next step.

My felt pads were MIA. A forum member makes replacements out of plastic. They are/were still sort of in the development stage so are very inexpensive. They work fine on my cars. I just held them to the corner tabs with silicone. Perhaps he will weigh in.

The FSM also has specs and destructions on adjusting the cable clutch. I haven't crossed that bridge but may soon. I ony need slightly more umph to have the roof working perfectly.

Anyone feel free to weigh in on roof clutch adjustment.

On mine....

Mine's a W124. Mine had a problem with the rubber gasket around the perimeter of the hole in the car for the sunroof. It buckled out a bit around a corner. I was going to replace it, bought a new seal for $100 or so, then I thought I'd try some Prestone power steering fluid with Stop Leak in it. I brushed the fluid on there, let it sit for 1/2 hour or so to let it absorb into the rubber, then wiped it off. It fixed the problem, so I sold off the new seal. Didn't need it.

I'm in the shunroof category. I have a sunroof but I am in denial and simply don't use it for fear of something snapping on a trip and getting stuck in a downpour.. or hail storm.

Last time I used it .... it closed fine. And that's where I decided to leave it.

Sun roofs are nice and only need maintenance to keep working and understanding to do the maintenance. FSM and YouTube have destructions.
