masive huge gigantic large big oil leak

ok I'm back with more info finally. we had a flood and slowed down my working on this HUGE GIGANTIC ENORMOUS OIL LEAK ON THE 300TD

here are a couple of picks. I'm pretty sure its the rear main seal. just put
in a 4 speed and all of the sudden the oil is leaking from the bell housing like a crazy person.

cant figure it out crap

anyway oil seams to be pouring out of the rear main. I can see it giant drops thru the window in the bottom of the bell housing it acts like its pooling up in the bell housing then when I hit the breaks or turn it pours out.

can someone give me some info on what it takes to change the seal?

I wonder in how this happened a buddy just did a 4 speed swap for me and instant giant oil leak. something that he did???

in the bottom of the bell housing (front) there is an oval shaped opening where you can see the flywheel spinning. just in front of that there is oil streaming down in giant long drops 2 or 3 at a time. the oil pools up in the bottom of the bell housing. dumps out when I hit the breaks. still trying to figure out the pic thing.

You need to replace the rear rope seal, which means the engine has to come out.
You may want to re-seal the rest of the engine while you have it out (front seal and spacer ring, oil filter stand gasket etc). Check out this thread:

It's easiest if you post the images using a hosing site, like photobucket (which sucks, but its just an example), otherwise you need to shrink the images down for this site to host them.

You may want to try to clean the area real good with degreaser and a pressure washer first. The oil may be coming from the oil filter stand gasket, but look like it is from the rear seal. It is worth the effort, maybe you will not need to pull the engine.

No need to use a hosting site...

Under the "Quick Reply" box that opens when you hit the "Reply" button, click on the Yellow "Go Advanced" button.
This opens the "Reply to Thread" box and the "Additional Options" box. (They also open when you click on the "Quote" button).

Click on the Yellow "Manage Attachments " tab in "Attach Files" section of the the "Additional Options" box.

This opens the "Manage Attachments" window.
The max file size is listed in the key for the different file formats.

Under the "Upload File from your Computer" box click on the "Choose File" button.

This opens the "Open" window.

Enter the file name in the field with the flashing cursor, then click on the highlighted "Open" button.

The "Manage Attachments" window opens and the file name will appear next to the "Choose" button.

Now click on the yellow "Upload" button.
The file will appear in the "Manage Attachments" window and also in the "Attach Files" section of the "Additional Options" box.

This file is now assigned a URL, if you click on it it will open in a new tab in your browser.
If you copy the URL you can insert the attachment into your text (where the cursor is flashing) by clicking on the "Insert Image" icon (mountain scene with yellow sky at the top) and pasting the copied URL and then clicking on the "OK" button.

You can upload up to 5 attachments per post.
They will appear as thumbnails at the end of your text (whether or not if they are inserted in the body of your text).

Clicking on the yellow "Preview Post" button allows you review to make sure your post is to your liking prior to clicking on the yellow "Submit Reply" button.

You can always use the "Edit' button later to modify a post if needed.

at the bottom of the screen, click go advanced.

if you are posting from your phone, select computer version of page.

select manage attachments, then browse to the pictures you want to upload, and select each one, (limit 5) and they have to be less than file limit, and image size... then you have to upload them. then you close the manage attachments page, then you post your comment.

if the images are too large for the manage page, I find that if you text the pictures to yourself, the text app will resize them for you. save the texted pics, and upload those.
