Where are all of the UK diesel w123s?

Dang w123s keep me coming back, any particular reason why w123 diesels in the UK are so rare?

All I can find over here are gassers. I may bite, but i'm more familiar with the diesel engines and don't fancy learning a whole new engine.

I live in London - it took me 6 months to find my RHD 300D with aircon. Owners don't like to sell them and when they do, they sell VERY fast (think hours, not days) and the prices continue to rise every few months. Cars with obsessive owners are starting to command upwards of £15K.

Easier/ cheaper to find LHDs without aircon or to import a rare RHD car from the EU (while you still can). Have you checked out carandclassic.co.uk?

I did and found one version that was pretty bad.

I'm tempted to just save up my money, fly to the American southwest, and ship one to the UK.

That's not to mention the crazy fuel, insurance, and tax costs.

Sigh, damn HM's government and their expensive taxes. The prius I have costs nothing to fuel and tax. I miss America.

I'd suggest waiting. I saw two great examples a couple months ago, both for <£8K.

Ever wondered where all the old Mercedes go? They end up as Taxi's in Morocco! LOL

You dropped out of site a few years back. Now you bubble up in the UK.
Didn`t you live in Pennsylvania or some where in that area?

Haha, good to see you too bud!

I did live in that area. I sold my 300D way back in 2012. I miss that car very much but it became too expensive to repair. I sold it to a mechanic in central New York who is still driving it around.

I lived in New England for awhile and then work has sent me over to the UK. I saw a 230E awhile ago and my heart stopped.

It's time to start driving a fun car again.

Expensive to repair? What was wrong with it?

The suspension needed a complete overhaul and it was starting to affect the steering. I lost my garage and ability to work on the car. I didn't have the energy nor finances to do a complete vehicle overhaul.

The guy I sold it to was a mechanic. I trust he did the necessary repairs to give it new life!

Funny, my wife and I are just at the beginning stages of considering a move to Ireland. On a lark, I looked at the availability of old MB diesels in the area and, just as you describe, there are NONE. I thought my google-fu was failing!

Is it because of emissions standards, maybe?

Your Google-fu is clearly as good as mine. There are none out there.

If you have the appetite for an EXCELLENT W115 220D, here's one I would have bought in a heartbeat if I had the garage space.
