Actually if you cut the rubber Hose you can get the box end of an open end of a combination wrench (tough to break that) on the Hose fitting and use the fancy tools on the steel line end.

I doubt if there is much pressure inside of the transmission cooler system.

I soaked the line in penetrating oil for two days (reapplying occasionally) while I waited on my new higher quality line wrench set. Tried it again this morning and managed to free it up.
Huzzah!

In classic U.S. cars, people run their own trans cooler tubes all the time (I have). Pressures are fairly low (<50 I guess). Many FWD vehicles don't even have tubes, just running hose all the way. But, M-B uses special fittings (at least to us in U.S.), so I wouldn't fool with the connection at the transmission, but rather work off the existing tube. A hose w/ clamp should work. If worried about it sliding off, clean all oil w/ solvent so the rubber grabs the metal. You would likely have to cut it off in a few years. Even better, you could flare the end slightly. At the radiator end, you can cut and peel the crimp away, then the hose, and slide a new hose on w/ screw clamp, or an Oeticker stepless ear clamp if you want it prettier.

Did you replace your rubber transmission cooler lines? Mine do not have the wire coil protector over the rubber and is in a pretzel shape. I'd like to replace them. What did you end up buying? I see OE Mercedes, Cohline and Trucktec brands available. I'll probably go with Cohline.

Honestly, I dont remember. I needed them in a hurry, so I got them from the local parts store. They do have the spring coiled around them.

While in their, it might be a good idea to have a look at the nuts that hold the transmission cooler nozzles in place (and provide a seal). I had one of those nuts split in half, all of it's own accord. Just noticed the coolant leaking. Discussed in link below (Lot's of misinformation there to skip over , so maybe just read the first post! )
