93 300D Aux fuseholder w/30 Amp strip fuse question

Does anyone know where I can purchase an auxillary fuseholder w/30 amp flat strip fuse? My auxillary fan caused the fuse to melt into the holder. Thanks so much.

I think you should be able to buy the mercedes benz one or get one from a yard. Or you can splice in a replacement fuse holder which takes a standard blade fuse.

If you do get a replacement factory fuse holder, be sure to use a little anti-oxidation paste on the aluminum fuse where it screws to the steel holder. This is the same stuff electricians use on aluminum wiring. That's probably why your original melted. 30 Amps is a lot to draw, the blower is rated at 28 Amps in high-speed.

that paste is also good on the bullet fuses.

That's a great idea. Far too many of us never check the state of the fuses; I'm probably as guilty as the next guy—checked the fuses and replaced aluminum with copper when I got the car, haven't touched it since!

30 A is at the upper limit for a ATC / ATO fuse so I'd be concerned about melting the connections.

I'd go with a Maxi fuse because 30 or so is the lower limit ( they go to at least 60 and probably higher ) . Holders for these should be available at a good truck parts store or automotive electrical service company.

Absolutely correct. A PO of the '87 300D Turbo I once owned tried to put in an ATC fuse and ended up melting the fuse holder. I replaced it with a Maxi fuse/holder until I could get the factory part.
