Thanks! The FSM says to install the step washers dry. Do you know the reason why? I have a theory.

When dry, the rubber seals can't squish and slide against the metal surfaces of the compressor and manifold. I'll get some pics of the old washers where the rubber got pretty distorted.

Old vs new step washers. Old ones are pretty squished/ distorted but surprisingly, still passed the pressure test with Argon. Rained here this afternoon so didn't get to work on the car.
