E 320 Diesel Glow Plug
I just bought a 2009 E 320 Diesel.
I noticed that the cluster panel does't have a light for "glow plug" when the tumbler is turned to the on position, before starting the car. Even the weather in Texas be hot in this season the year my old Mercedes 300SD glow plugs light come on not matter what season the year. Even glow plugs light not coming on, the car start the same as it was a gasoline car, at the first turn of the ignition key. Are there some light or I'm confused? One car dealer told me that the newer diesel cars do not have this feature anymore. What can you tell me? Thanks. |

Correct. The CDI glow cycle in the summer is practically nonexistent. Even below freezing outside (doesn't get very cold here in the winter) still only a couple seconds.
On the 642 you can twist the key to the start position and it will hold off on the auto crank until it's ready to go on its own. I suspect they did this to make the keyless go feature work properly. My wife has gotten used to this and then when she gets in my car she sometimes forgets she has to wait for the glow light to turn off first. My 606 has the auto crank, but it is not synchronized to the glow light, so it is possible to start it too early. |
