sending my w126 to the yard. what parts should i pull

so the engine in my w126 is toast and the whole car is cosmetically lacking. i'm sending the car to the recycler soon. the interior is horrible. all the exterior plastics are age cracking and faded.

what i have pulled:

injection pump
aluminum power steering pump
oil filter housing
injectors & lines
front bilstein HD's
relays

anything else i should pull? gauge cluster? valve cover with all those rod things? vac pump?

i plan on buying another w126 in the future when i have the space available.

rear end, gauges, rear shocks if good. Rotors, calipers, pads, AC parts, dash if good, wood trim on dash if good or repairable, relays, vac pods, washer reservoir, door hardware, door strikers, seals, lights, mono valve - the list goes on.

I would/did invest is an electric impact gun and get everything that will easily come off. Take your handy dandy can of rust breaker (ie PB Blaster) and spray bolts where you're working. Loosen a bunch then buzz the car apart. Store it in boxes with those from a similar area together ie engine compartment, passenger compartment, suspension etc. It is also nice to have a stash of OE bolts available.

It may also be worth keeping the wheels if you can get rid of the carcass without it being able to roll. Some yards will drag it onto a roll back if you give it to them.

I don't know how bad your seats are but often the right seat will be not too bad (they don't get as many buttmiles) and they will interchange with the driver's seat so there's a few $$, too. If you're really clever (I'm not!) you can pull the fixed glass (windscreen and backlight) and that'll sell, too. If you're willing to fight with it you can also pull the door glass and window bits as well as door handles as long as you have the door cards off anyway. Working inside the doors almost always results in cut hands so have Band-Aids "on hand" (I know, that one stinks.....).

In addition to what others have said, I would also pull the following:

Head including cam, cover, and cam followers
vacuum pump
alternator
starter
turbo
glow plug relay
pistons
window motors and switches
side and rear glass
headlight surrounds
passenger seat springs
doors
front fenders
hood
trunk lid
axles
calipers
brake drums
transmission
tail light lenses

That should give you a start!

My wife, kibitzing over my shoulder, also recommended you pull the master cylinder and brake booster. Yep, that is why I keep this girl around!

She also noted that if you save all the parts we have recommended, it is easier to find a place to store the car and just remove what you need when you need it!

Do you have a good door lock vacuum pump? If you are selling stuff I would be interested in that.

Depends on how much storage space you have. Probably easy where you live, not so for someone in an apartment in NY or SF.
If the p.s. gear doesn't have play, and was showing <4 threads on the sector shaft adjustment screw (on top), I would save it (BTW, differs from W123 gear).
The rear end would be nice to save, but a hard pull.
Glass is tempting, but is fairly available even for 1950's cars because the bodies rust away but glass is forever, other than chips.

I'm junking an 84 body. I'm taking the window motors and lock actuators for storage along with everything that's any good.

If you want the rear windshield buy a 5 pack of hawk bill-type utility knife blades and cut the gasket. If you stay away from the metal it will be easy to remove. Cut all the way around the glass and lift it out. 10 minutes max but you might want someone who you can trust to help with lifting it out. Just give it a gentle push from the inside.

If the radiator is a good used or replaced one perhaps save it. Fan clutch if it tests good as well perhaps.

...

I have piles of 123 & 126 stuff stored... i have entire cars stored...

Unless you have someone looking for the part... you will have a hard time selling it...
Unless you are saving parts for your own car...

I'm saving for me. This is all based around the fact i own one of those trim pieces that go between the tail lights. I simply must own a w126 again and i'm storing these parts so if something is bad or going bad on the car i'll have a core to deal with while the car still moves or isn't taken apart.
