Question Connecting 200D Pull-Start Cable?

Hello everyone,

I’m new to this forum and this is my first post -- thanks in advance for any help provided. I recently picked up a wonderful 1967 200D in great shape for its age, but needing quite a bit of TLC.

I’m in process of replacing the diesel starter pull cable and am hoping for expert advice..

When removing the old cable at the dashboard switch I didn’t get a good look at how the connection between the spring on the end of the switch rod connects to the metal cylinder end of the cable. Is it simply put in place and then tightened by adjusting the tension inside the bracket with the tension wire? Or is there some little piece that I may be missing that connects the two? I do have the little metal surround with its own little bar through the cable end, just not clear what purpose it serves and wondering if it plays some part in the connection. I apologize if my terminology is incorrect, not quite sure what all these little bits are called.

Thanks in advance for your help and please advise what more information I can provide to clarify.

-Omar

Omar, welcome to the forum! If you need help you have come to the right place. I can't help you but I'm sure there is someone here (or maybe the diesel discussion forum) that can. In the meantime, until someone posts some advice, use the search function. I know yours is a rather obscure question but you may run across something that makes the pieces fall in to place for you. Good luck with your new ride! I'm sure someone will post a helpful hint shortly.
