Yes, they both have the 123 830 14 58 part number on them.

Here is a close up picture. The rust covers the part number pretty well.

I have to agree with you on the efficiency between copper tubes and aluminum tubes. Although, I did get a good 32 degree vent temps performance out of this copper tubed evaporator even with it clogged.

Do you happen to have an old Behr evaporator laying around you can get a pic of the p/n off from?

No I don't have an extra Behr evaporator, so no part number.

However, I was at the wrecking yard and you asked the question of finding the part number for a Behr Evaporator Housing in Demothen's other thread

I stumbled upon this and took to pic of part number 123 830 32 58 that maybe hiding behind the air vent tube. The tube was removed here.

Compared to the Siemen's 123 830 40 58 located near the expansion valve or on top of the housing.

Demothen, can you take a shot of you Behr evaporator and housing with the same view as this one but with tape measures lengthwise and widthwise? It would be useful if I want to cut access openings in the enclosure for better cleaning of evaporator in situ.

Demothen, can you check if your Behr evaporator has a p/n as in pic or elsewhere on the evaporator?

I couldn't find a part number anywhere on it, but I'll look again this weekend.
I'll get you that photo - but just be aware that I think the dirtiest section was the area located between the heater core and the center tunnel. I'm not 100% sure though, my spatial awareness got messed up pretty bad while taking the whole assembly apart, since I had to rotate it several times looking for hidden clips.

[QUOTE=Demothen;3627013..........

The biggest problem I ran into was getting the heater hoses off at the firewall. I am pretty sure they have never been disconnected. I ended up cutting the three hoses so I could work a small screwdriver in to break them loose.

.......[/QUOTE]

Are the heater hoses held on with hose clamps?

If so, trick for next time:
Remove clamps, put a towel under the hose, microwave a cup of water till boiling, pour slowly over hose to soften. Grab hose with gloves and twist it off.

There are special hose tools instead of screwdrivers

Thanks for the tip on the hoses, Funola. I hadn't thought to use hot water, but I did pick up that same set of hose tools.

This weekend I finally got back to work on the AC. I focused primarily on rebuilding the evaporator/heater housing, I'm waiting for some help to re-install it since it's bulky and has some fragile parts that I'm worried about breaking during the reinstallation. Essentially I'm roughly following PeachPartsWiki: Replacing the A/C Evaporator. The housing I am using is a Seimens unit for the evaporator half, with my original Behr heater core housing. I believe the heater core housing is made by Behr regardless of which evap housing you have, as it interchanged easily.

I cleaned everything with some parts wipes, followed by clean water to remove any residue.

I used 3/4" wide by 1/4" thick foam weatherstrip to seal around one side of the evaporator to prevent air from bypassing it. My original Behr evaporator had one strip of weatherstrip on it, while the Seimens housing had residue that I believe was from two strips of weatherstrip. I got the Seimens housing used, so I don't have pictures of it being dismantled to be sure.

I used Armacell 2 in. x 30 ft. R-1 Foam Insulation Tape-TAP18230 - The Home Depot for the flaps, it seems to work well, although I have no idea how long it will last. It's fairly obvious where the old foam was via the residue left behind from the glue, or on the fresh air flap there was an area that was coated with something black.

I also used some butyl rope caulking to seal around the ports to the evaporator. I wasn't sure what the original sealant was, and didn't want to risk using something with solvents that would harm the housing or evaporator.

I replaced the main evaporator drain with some 1" heat-shrink and 1/2" PEX tube cut to about 3" long. The idea was to hold the heat shrink in place over the drain, put the PEX inside it, then shrink it into place forming a watertight and hopefully long-lasting seal. I also added a zip tie around the heat shrink just in case.

Here's a few pictures of the rebuild process, hopefully they will help others. I'll try to get pictures of the old Behr housing/evap once I have room on my workbench. Let me know ASAP if you need any specific pictures of the Seimens housing, I'm hoping to reinstall it tomorrow night.

Now I feel like I missed something. Does anyone know if there should be weatherstrip between the aluminum piece and the evaporator? It seems like there should be to prevent air from bypassing on that side, and make sure that the metal on metal doesnt cause a rattle. I have the feeling I'll be pulling the whole thing back apart tonight...

Yes, there was some sort of calking in two lines on the aluminum plate. It was roughly near the middle of the evaporator. I ended up just using weather stripping on mine. But I wonder now if I should of used calking to prevent the weather stripping from being soaked with condensation and causing mold later on. You are correct to use weather stripping for the top of the evaporator.

Thanks DeliveryValve, I poked around on the other behr housing some last night and found that the bottom side of that aluminum used to have weatherstrip, and the top side had a tiny bit of residue from what I think was butyl sealant. I ended up using a bit of the foam tape I used on the air flaps to replace the weatherstrip on the Seimens box, and some butyl strip caulking on the top side, both based on the evidence provided by oxidation on the aluminum to figure out where I think it belongs. I'll attach a couple pictures. Since you mentioned that there were two lines, I'll add a second strip tonight.

Funola, here's the pictures you asked for of the Behr evaporator with measurements. It didn't come out as well as I'd have liked since I was trying to hold one tape measure and take a picture with the other hand. Let me know if it helps, or if not I can try to get a few more. The dirtiest area on the old evaporator was towards the back - since that's where the air is pushed from. Primarily the top left corner of the pictures. One thing I've noticed is that there's actually a secondary drain you might be able to use. With the housing installed in the car, look for a rubber tube that exists through the firewall at the same large grommet as the high/low side lines. You might be able to get to it under the dash, or you definitely can see it if you pull the battery tray. My advise would be to try to access that area and feed a whole bunch of water and the cleaner of your choice through that drain, as it leads directly to the dirtiest part of the evaporator. You might have better luck flushing the dirt out that way.

Thanks for the pics. Can you get a shot of the entire enclosure and label all openings as to hot/ cold, fresh and recirc air flow paths and directions?
