OM617 Cam
New to me is a 300d non turbo. I wanted to do a valve adjustment
but the power steering nut was not turning the engine. So I tried the Cam Bolt Just to Test. It was loose. Does anyone know what the Cam bolt should be torqued to? My 1st post Thanks in advance |

First off, you should not be trying to turn the engine over
with the cam sprocket! Turn it over using the crankshaft or try the power steering nut again and put a hand on the belt to tighten it. To answer your first question the necked down screw/bolt on the camshaft should be tightened to 80 Nm or 59 ft lbs. Are you sure the camshaft screw was loose and you weren't just turning the sprocket ?? If you really do need to tighten it you have to put a steel bar or large screwdriver through one of the sprocket holes to keep the gear from turning while you tighten the bolt. Turn clockwise only as you are looking toward the rear of the car. Jeff
