I've contributed to the quietness by posting far less frequently.

The car has functionally stabilized. I think I'm into cyclic repairs now, having done it the first time, now doing things a second time... but know how. No need to post and ask questions.

And because I'm not "innovating" with my repair actions on the Benz, I feel like I've got less to contribute.

...the database of info here is still awesome, that's what search is for, that's "never" going away.

I'm not in my 20's anymore, but not very advanced in my 30's either. Betsie and I are about the same age, although I'm not nearly has high maintenance as she is! Lately I have been missing the motivation to do wrenching. The car runs okay'ish (though not perfect) and I take her to work ocassionally, but I've been driving my Mazda more and more again. The Mazda never has problems and Betsie....Well, Betsie does. She's been sitting idle in my garage a lot lately.

I'm not too worried about the forum though, has it seems active enough to me. Whenever I have a question I generally get a prompt response from a helpful someone. Though lately I haven't been posting much because of the aforementioned lack of motivation to work on the car, but I still read the forum almost daily and check all the new posts frequently.

Looking a that pic of a beach full of blue 123 taxi's in Morrocco earlier in this thread, I have to wonder how many of them, with non functioning odometers have long since passed the million mile mark.

For myself. I just don't have the time any more to spend all of it on the forums or working on the car. Much as I'd like to. Sort of in a holding pattern right now.

The last good MB diesel (E320 CDI) is already 10 years old! Very very few of the V6 diesels will survive to be 20+ years old. Its just too complicated, overstressed and cheaply built to last. I have already seen one in a pull-n-pay "premium" section!

I am 58. I think back on all the ill-advised repairs I did on cars in my 20's and 30's, often w/o the proper tools and I sure wish they had the internet then. Even worse, was when I relied on mechanics, w/o Yelp and Angie's List to help screen the turds. In those days, you had to rely on scraps of mis-information from relatives, geezers at the barber shop, and mechanics with their own agenda, though shop manuals were probably better written then.

There is something a big magical about a classic MB that no other car can equal. Yes, it can be a pain getting parts, turning wrenches, etc., but then you aren't driving a 'looks like everyone else's ride' automobile. These classic MBs were designed by Bruno Sacco, a world class designer. After he left MB, the cars started to look 'cookie cutter'. Bruno was the KING.

This thread motivated me to take my 87 300D that has been sitting for 6 weeks out for a couple drives in spite of the minor issues it has. I had forgotten how good it feels to drive that thing. Thanks guys!

They are comfortable. Riding in new cars is like riding in a truck. The seats are hard and there is no legroom.
I have a friend with a Benz about eight years old. I would just as soon ride in a Chevette.
