what grease to use on power window assembly?
 

I recently got sufficiently frustrated with the one inoperative window to find out why, and discovered one end of the cable disconnected. I disasembled the whole thing, cleaned everything using some of the excess grease around the spool to lubricate the track. Since the cable was kind of munched in places, I was totally expecting it to jam up, but it didn't & worked beautifully for 3 days. It was quieter & faster than the other 3, but now stops an inch from the top. A replacement unit was sourced, but before I install it, I'd like to clean & lubricate it.

what to use?

Well, the FSM probably specifies something.. but I think that a white lithium is typically used for this type of thing...

I may have edited after you posted...
the edit url has some specifics from MB..
but also what I would use...
Chrysler used to specify the white lithium for the doors...
I did look in the chassis manual and in a couple of ' maintenance manuals'... but could not find anything except a reference to the MB lubrication list... which was not printed there..

I had purchased a container of gleitpaste in anticipation of doing my sunroof. I decided to experiment with it on my window gears as well as my door check.

It has been smooth for almost 2 years now. I am planning to remove the door panel and take a look but it is easily my smoothest window and door combination.

I had used lithium on one door about 4 years ago and it is slower than the gleitpaste window for the past 2 years.

Not sure if it is good or bad but my humble $.02, gleitpaste is amazing stuff.

from following Leathermang's links- ebay looks like the place.

I do need to pick up some turbo gaskets from the Fatherland @ my local dealer. I might poke my head into the service bay & try to get a few grams off one of the techs. While I have found them to be both friendly & generous, I'm prepared to grease a palm. :)

MB did seem to be very specific about the sunroof lubrication...
Another thing which might be good... since some water probably gets to those parts... there is water ' proof ' grease available for farm stuff... and perhaps for chain saws... the blade part...these are usually green I think..

I've used both silicone and lithium grease. Both seem to work well, but I would lean towards white lithium grease

got my gaskets and some complimentary gleitpaste :)

should be enough to do all four windows & sunroof

I don't spend a lot at my local dealer, but I'm there fairly often and asked nicely.

in window service I found 2 products from superlube to be great, one is their synthetic grease for the mechanical bits and one is their silicone paste for the rubber channel rails.

if gleitpaste is too spendy for you guys, VW sell their sunroof grease in a tube which is very similar to this benz paste - which to be honest looks like NLGI-3.5 silicone grease.
