ABS question w126

I'm considering tackling the job of removing the 84SD differential and installing it in the 85 380SE body. The SE has the 617 and transmission from the SD in it now. Changing the differential may be the only way I, personally, can get the 247 gear back with it's engine.

The SD doesn't have an ABS, I'm sure. Would making the proposed change mess up the ABS on the SE body?

If the differential that you are installing does not have provision for an ABS speed sensor, then the ABS will not operate.

Thanks Frank.

I've become senile. My confusion over the gear compatibility was settled two or three weeks ago. I apologized for posting about it again.

I learned then that the 247 was the SE gear and the simplest way to deal with this problem was to change the transmission yoke. I opted to change the differential yoke due to the new flex disk, carrier bearing and housing.

Good choice. The 2.47 rear end makes highway cruising wonderful on a w126. I loved mine. Really should have kept that car.

I believe your comment on the 247 gear behind a 617 engine is what lead me to this decision. I expected at least you to be satisfied I'd made the correct decision.

I wonder if driving in town will allow for high enough RPMs to keep the engine free of carbon.

I never had an issue with carbon build up. My around town acceleration was also more than adequate.
