W115 Engine oil cooler - HELP!
My beloved Sofia, a 1972 220d (W115) needs an engine oil cooler (it rusted out and peed oil all over the place) and I have not been able to find a replacement! Anyone know of a source for one? Otherwise, anyone have experience in installing a "universal" oil cooler (ie: non-Behr)?

Oil cooler from w123 240D will probly match hose connexions on 220D. Then if it doesnt fit alongside w115 radiator just find another place to hang it on fender well, thats what I'd do. Toughest part of finding replacement OC will probly be matching threads for hoses. Otherwise cap ends and dont worry about not having an oil cooler at all. Plenty of 220D and 240D came off assembly line with none, aint exactly critical item.

Given the fragile nature of the all aluminum 123 cooler I would bypass it before trying to use one in a fabricated mount. Any pressure in a place not designed for it will create a potential leak in time.
If it were me, I would try to repair it or find a proper one....if you can stand waiting for it. A radiator shop should be able to repair it. Tom W

240 d oil c ooler
I have same problem...I bought an old 75 240 d without the radiator and oil cooler and i found a radiator to rebuild but the oil cooler i got on ebay--big surprise--is junk.
You can have a hydraulic hose shop make the hoses you might need with any kind of thread imaginable and they will be better then oem because they will use metal reinforced rubber hose. But they might have to be sculpted to fit the necessary contours of engine components. if i can't find my cooler, i'm going to have to find a universal one and have custom hoses made for it and mounted somehow.
