hubcaps on alloys

Hello,

this is a very basic and simple question. Will the 14' hubcaps fit on either the alloys and the steel wheels? I was thinking about getting hubcaps for my car with the alloys but i am not sure if they will fit.

Thanks.

I'm more worried about the wheel cover clips damaging the alloy wheel.

How about some ebay steelies from a Euro car or a early 123?

The mercedes aluminum wheel designed for wheel covers which came on the 82 83 240D and other models will accept a wheel cover as designed but in general most aluminum wheels will not accept a clip on wheel cover, nor will a typical mercedes alloy wheel designed to be used without a wheel cover accept a wheel cover.

The old fashioned full moon spun aluminum wheel covers which are held on with screws will work though. I'm using them on my 39 studebaker coupe express street rod over the most basic alloy wheels available, I believe they are called "outlaws"...? I had to get a hole punched in them for my tire stems.

If you have the steel wheels which are regularly found on the w123's which have hubcaps then yes- the hubcaps will fit the alloys and steel alike. There are different clips which attach to the hubcaps; the alloy clips feature a small hard plastic section which stops them from marking the alloy wheels, the steel clips do not have the hard plastic. Either clip will still work with either wheel.

if you use the ones with plastic on steel they will be a bit loose and may fall off. If you use the steel designed for wheelcovers on the aluminum wheels they will be tight but will stay on.

Good information as I prefer the hubcaps but never thought they would fit on the alloy wheels. Or it never occurred to me they might.

I was thinking that with care you might epoxy on small thin pieces of sheet metal on the alloy where the metal clips will bear. A little heat would remove the thin metal pieces if you wanted to revert again to plain alloy wheels with no surface damage.

Although they are painted alloy wheels so a little body work and repaint might restore any areas damaged by the better clips

The clips are metal, just search w123 hub cap clips on eBay.

The pic makes that wheel look rusty...

i found a workaround for using the steel wheel clips on the alloys: wrap the clip in fabric tape. then it's ever so slightly larger and non-marring.

Those are the Bundt style wheels, and they don`t take a hub Cap.
NO Way.

No rust, probably brake dust.

Wheels

What most people don't realize is Mercedes steel wheels have a near twin made out of lightweight aluminium. they were designed to have a full size hubcap. It's hard to tell them apart. If you want know if your wheels are steel for sure, just try a magnet on them. I would be surprised if a hubcap would fit a Bundt style wheel.

They won't, for more than one reason.
